According to a reliable blog search engine source, amount of internet blogs increase from 50 millions (end 2006) to 170 millions (end 2007). This increase in trend is amazing. More and more internet users are using or switching to owning a blog than a website.

Most bloggers love to make money through blogs as you can see when they display all kinds of advertisements and reviews for advertisers on their blogs. Yet little do they realize that they have missed out something important. You may have seen some, but not all.

Branding & Uniqueness:

Try not to use a free blog service. It is absolutely not wrong to engage free blog service with free hosting for your blog. In fact for new bloggers, I always encourage them to do so. However, if you are looking into long-term blogging and once you become more advanced in blogging, you should seriously consider self-hosting your blog. Free blog services have their limitations too.

Register a decent domain name. A domain name is like a brand, something that uniquely defines you or your blog. You can use your actual name just like johnchow.com (one of the most famous blogs around).

Choose a right template & theme. Blogger should spend more time to choose the right template & theme. If your blog is about business and money making, a professional look with a nice matching of colors and themes would be more appealing. Once a while, it is recommended to revamp your blog to give others a new fresh look.

Design a unique header. Some may disagree with me but in my opinion, a unique header is important. Imagine if one is using a common or free-to-use blog template, it will not out-stand the rest as every blog will look almost the same.

Promote:

Finding ways to promote & drive visitors for your blog. A well-written article without proper exposure (readers) will serve no purpose. To gain exposure, you need to drive more visitors to using ways like BlogCatalog, StumbleUpon, Technorati etc.

Attract:

Focus on the objective of the blog. Let’s say you created a blog to make money, you should focus on topics that would make lot’s of money or help to make more money. Writing posts that are not objective related will result in poor response or confusion.

Writing unique and content-rich articles. By writing quality articles, visitors are likely to return to visit your blog more frequently. Some may even subscribe to receive emails whenever you update your blog, whereas, others may even mention your article in their blog, thereby, help to promote your blog.

Retain:

Use email subscriptions or RSS feeds to retain your visitors. Your visitor today might be gone tomorrow. You need to retain him so that you can regularly “remind” him to come back.

Innovative:

Be creative when writing your articles or handling your blog. Readers like refreshing new ideas or things to read. Not always the same old fairy tale.
